Privacy Policy

At Novel Maestro, we believe that your writing is your most valuable asset. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information and manuscript data.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy covers your use of the Novel Maestro platform and services. We are a team dedicated to building the world's best developmental editor, and a core part of that mission is ensuring you maintain complete trust in how we handle your work.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information to provide and improve our services. This includes:

  • Account Information: Your name, email address, and authentication credentials.
  • Manuscript Content: The text of the novels or stories you upload, along with your notes, character profiles, and story foundations.
  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the platform, such as features used, reading modes accessed, and session duration.
  • Device & Browser Information: Basic analytics such as browser type, operating system, and IP address to ensure platform security and stability.

3. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used strictly to deliver and improve Novel Maestro. Specifically, we use it to:

  • Deliver our core service: running deep diagnostics and generating developmental feedback.
  • Analyze manuscripts using third-party AI models to power your First Read and Workshop tools.
  • Communicate with you regarding your account, security updates, or billing.
  • Improve the service using aggregated, anonymized usage metrics (never using your actual manuscript text).

4. Manuscript Data

Your manuscript is private by default. It is encrypted both at rest and in transit. We do not share your manuscript with the public or unauthorized third parties. Most importantly, your manuscript is never used to train AI models.

To provide our editorial analysis, your text is securely processed by our third-party AI partners (such as Anthropic and Google). We operate under strict Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with these providers that explicitly prohibit them from using your input data to train their models.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data or your manuscripts. We only share information in very limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We share necessary data with AI processing partners and payment processors (e.g., Stripe) to facilitate the service.
  • Legal Compliance: If required by law, subpoena, or other legal processes, we may disclose information to authorized authorities.

6. Data Retention

We retain your manuscript and account data only for as long as your account is active. You may export your data or delete your projects at any time. If you choose to delete your account, all associated personal and manuscript data will be permanently removed from our active systems within 30 days, and purged from our encrypted backups within 90 days.

7. Your Rights

You maintain control over your data. You have the right to access, export, or delete your personal information and manuscripts at any time via your account settings. You also have the right to withdraw your consent to this policy by deleting your account. If you require assistance with a data request, please contact us.

8. Cookies

Novel Maestro uses cookies minimally. We rely on strictly necessary session cookies to authenticate you and keep you logged in. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies on our platform.

9. Security

We employ enterprise-grade encryption to protect your work. Our infrastructure is built on secure cloud providers, and we conduct regular security reviews to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction of your data.

10. Children's Privacy

Novel Maestro is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such data, we will take immediate steps to delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our service evolves. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or through a prominent notice on the platform before the changes take effect.
